OpenCart guide · Abandoned Cart Recovery
Up to three automatic reminder e-mails, unique single-use coupons and a one-click restore link that rebuilds the cart on any device. A dashboard shows how many carts came back and how much revenue the reminders recovered.

The problem
OpenCart keeps guest carts only for the session. Once the shopper leaves, the cart is gone and so is the chance to remind them.
Without a reminder, a shopper who was one step from paying never hears from you again.
Abandoned Cart Recovery for OpenCart
Signed-in customers when they add a product, guests once they enter an e-mail at checkout, with an "E-mail me a reminder" checkbox in opt-out or opt-in mode.
Up to three e-mails with their own delay, subject and message; a unique OpenCart coupon (percentage, fixed or free shipping) where you want one.
The signed link rebuilds products, options and quantities, prefills the e-mail and applies the coupon. Orders are linked to the reminder that won them back.
Restore links work days later and on another device, after OpenCart deleted the guest cart.
Native OpenCart coupons per e-mail; unused codes are removed after they expire.
Abandoned value, restore rate, recovered orders and revenue, per reminder and per day.
Cart list and timeline, e-mail preview, test e-mail, send the next reminder now.
An unsubscribe button page that e-mail scanners cannot trigger, and a do-not-remind list.
Measured quantities are restored exactly; accepted Make an Offer prices are left out of coupons.
Abandoned Cart Recovery for OpenCart

OpenCart does not remind anyone about a forgotten cart, and it deletes guest carts when the session ends. So even if you wanted to e-mail a guest, the cart is gone.
This extension keeps its own copy of each cart. Reminders and restore links keep working after OpenCart has cleared the session, on any device. It captures signed-in customers as soon as they add a product, and guests as soon as they type their e-mail at checkout, even if they never press a button.
The dashboard shows abandoned value, restore rate, recovered orders, recovery rate and recovered revenue, with the paid part, plus a daily chart, performance per reminder and the most abandoned products. The cart list has filters, a timeline per cart, e-mail preview, test e-mail, Send reminder now and Run now.
The extension installs disabled, so enable it first. Then choose how reminders are sent:
An "E-mail me a reminder" checkbox sits under the checkout e-mail field, in opt-out or opt-in mode. Every e-mail has an unsubscribe link with a confirmation page, safe from link scanners, and a do-not-remind list. You can set a retention period and erase by e-mail address, and no IP addresses are stored. Which mode you need depends on your market, so check with your adviser.
A coupon in the first e-mail trains customers to wait for one. Keep it for the last reminder, as the default does, and set a minimum cart value so small carts get no discount.
Coupons do not pile up: each reminder creates one single-use coupon, and unused ones are deleted. Products bought at an accepted Make an Offer price are left out of the coupon, so there is never a double discount. Measured quantities from Sell by Weight & Length are kept and restored exactly.
| No tool | E-mail platform | This extension | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guest carts after session end | Lost | Needs tracking | Kept |
| Single-use OpenCart coupons | No | Needs a connector | Built in |
| Restore with options | No | Depends | Yes |
| Monthly fee | No | Usually | No |
A first reminder within the hour catches the shopper while they still remember what they were doing. Longer sequences rarely need more than three messages, and the per-reminder table shows when a step stops paying for itself.
If reminders do not arrive, look at sending first: a store using PHP mail often lands in spam, so use SMTP with your domain’s sender records set up. Get Abandoned Cart Recovery on the store, or see the Sell More Pack on the packages page.
OpenCart 4.0.2 to 4.1.x and 3.0.3 to 3.0.5, in separate packages under one licence. Tested on 4.1.0.4 and 3.0.5.1. OpenCart events only, with no core changes, no OCMOD and no theme edits. In a multi-store setup, carts remember their store, and links in e-mails point to it.
Keep the first message simple and helpful: your items are saved, here is the link. Reminder two can answer the likely objection, such as delivery cost, returns or sizing. The last can carry the coupon and a clear end date.
Use your store’s voice, write a subject that names the store, and make the button the only thing to click. Your own subject, heading and text can be set per reminder. Send a test to your own phone first, because most people will read it there.
