A grocery theme made for filling a basket on a phone.

Pantry is made for grocers, farm shops, bakeries, delis and meal-box stores, where people add many items per order, mostly on a phone. Round aisle bubbles, cards whose green Add button turns into a quantity stepper, a price per kg on every card, produce stickers, a recipe block that adds every ingredient, a floating basket bar with a free-delivery progress line and a nutrition and allergens tab. A child theme of Classic, so one package runs on PrestaShop 8.2 and 9.x.

The problem

Why a general theme sells food short

A grocery order is many small items. A general theme sends shoppers to a product page and back for each one, and has no quick way to adjust a quantity, which makes a full basket slow to build on a phone.

Food is priced per kilo or per litre, and shoppers want origin, shelf life and allergens before they buy. If those are missing from the card and the product page, they compare badly and trust the total less.

Three ways to build a food storefront

ApproachHow it worksTrade-off
Classic as it isPrestaShop’s own theme with food categories. No aisle navigation, no quantity stepper and no unit price on the card.
Custom buildA developer builds the aisle bubbles, stepper and nutrition tab from scratch.Slow and costly, and every PrestaShop upgrade puts the template overrides at risk.

Pantry: Grocery & Food Store Theme for PrestaShop

How it works

  1. 01

    Import the theme

In Design > Theme & Logo click Add new theme, upload the zip and choose Use this theme. The companion module Pantry theme settings is installed for you; then regenerate the thumbnails once.

  2. 02

Pick a preset and fill the sections

In the module settings choose Market, Greenhouse, Citrus or Deli, then set the hero, promo boxes, deals, recipe, delivery steps and band. One click imports Larder Grocers: six aisles and thirty groceries.

  3. 03

    Describe your products with features

Features named Pack size, Dietary, Origin, Storage, Shelf life, Allergens and Energy drive the price per kg, the stickers, the fact boxes and the nutrition table. Sale countdowns come from specific prices with an end date.

What you get

Aisle bubbles and a shopping header

Your top categories as round bubbles with a picture and an item count, under a header with a delivery slot pill, a pill search, a basket pill with the total and a Deals button.

Cards built for baskets

A green Add button that turns into a - 2 + stepper with no page reload, a unit line such as 500 g · $5.60/kg, and oval stickers for sale percentage, Organic, Local, Fairtrade and Vegan.

Recipe block

A recipe with its ingredients as products, all ticked, a live total and one Add all to basket button. Shoppers untick what they already have.

Phone basket bar

A floating bar with the number of items, the total and a line such as Add $12.40 for free delivery with a progress bar, above a five-tab bottom bar.

Product page for food

Pack size and price per kg, dietary chips, origin, storage and shelf-life boxes, a same-day delivery note and a Nutrition and allergens tab with a table per 100 g.

Four presets, one-page checkout

Market, Greenhouse, Citrus and Deli change card shapes and type, not only colours, and meet WCAG AA contrast. Fonts are self-hosted. Works with the classic checkout and the PrestaShop 9.2 one-page checkout.

A grocery theme for fast basket filling

Pantry is for grocers, farm shops, bakeries, delis and meal-box stores, where orders have many items and are mostly placed on a phone. Cards have a green Add button that turns into a minus and plus stepper, with no page reload or pop-up. A unit line shows "500 g · $5.60/kg", from a pack size feature.

Round aisle bubbles show your categories with product counts, and oval stickers show sale percentage, Organic, Local, Fairtrade and Vegan. A recipe block adds all ingredients with one click, and shoppers can untick what they have. A floating basket bar on phones shows the total and "Add $12.40 for free delivery", with a five-tab bottom bar.

Food data to prepare

Pantry reads features, whose names are settings:

Pantry feature data
ElementFeature
Unit linePack size
Stickers and chipsDietary
Fact boxesOrigin, Storage, Shelf life
Nutrition and allergens tabAllergens, Energy and related features, per 100 g

Without this data, those elements are simply not shown.

Nutrition and allergen information is shown as you enter it. It must follow the food labelling rules where you sell.

The product page also has a same-day delivery note. The header has a delivery slot pill and a basket pill with the total, and a deals row with countdowns. These display your promises, so make sure they match your actual service, and note that the pill does not book slots.

Pantry with Sell by Weight & Length

With Sell by Weight & Length, products sold by weight show Choose amount on cards, and its amount field is styled. The Pantry Store Kit on the packages page bundles both, with Abandoned Cart Recovery.

What to prepare for a food store on PrestaShop

Food has more legal and practical detail than most sectors. Sort these out before launch.

  • Product information: ingredients, allergens and nutrition should be easy to find. The rules differ by country, so check what must be shown before purchase in your market.
  • Unit prices: show price per kg or litre, as shoppers compare on those and many markets require it.
  • Delivery areas: publish them clearly, with cut-off times and minimum order. A shopper who finds out at checkout that you do not deliver to them may not come back.
  • Freshness promise: say what happens if something arrives damaged or short-dated.
  • Substitutions: decide whether you substitute out-of-stock items and how the customer is told.
  • Stock accuracy: food stock moves fast, so plan a daily update routine.

For repeat business, make reordering simple. Regular grocery customers buy much the same basket each time, and anything that shortens the second order matters more than a new home page banner.

For search, local terms matter: "organic vegetable box in Bristol" is a better target than "buy vegetables" for a small store. Recipes bring in steady traffic and give you a natural place to link to ingredients.

Photography can be simple, as long as it is honest: real produce, consistent light and accurate pack sizes. Show a pack next to something familiar when the size is hard to judge.

Compatibility

PrestaShop 8.2 and 9.x, as a child theme of Classic, including the 9.2 one-page checkout. No core changes and no overrides. The demo, Larder Grocers, has one-click removal that restores everything it hid.

Before you launch a new PrestaShop theme

Try the theme on a copy of your shop first. Local development hosts and subdomains of your licensed domain are covered.

  1. Keep the Classic theme installed, because ours are child themes of it.
  2. Install the theme from Design, Theme & Logo. Its small companion module comes with it.
  3. Regenerate thumbnails once in Design, Image Settings, so pictures match the theme’s sizes.
  4. Prepare the features and attribute groups the theme reads. Elements without data simply do not show.
  5. Run a full order on a phone with your payment module, on the standard checkout, or the one-page checkout on 9.2.
  6. Remove the demo content, which restores everything it hid, and clear the cache.

A child theme keeps your changes apart from Classic, so a PrestaShop update does not overwrite them. Avoid editing Classic itself.

FAQ

Questions and answers

Does Pantry change PrestaShop files?

No. It is a child theme of Classic plus a small module. It edits no core files, no other module and no Classic file, and it uses no overrides.

Does it run on PrestaShop 8.2 and 9?

Yes. Classic ships with both, so one code base runs on 8.2 (PHP 7.2.5 to 8.1) and on 9.0 to 9.2 (PHP 8.1 to 8.5), with the classic checkout and the 9.2 one-page checkout.

Why does a card show no price per kg?

It needs a feature named Pack size with a value such as 500 g, 1 L or 6 pack. Pack sizes in other units, such as 1 bunch, are shown without a price per unit.

Does it work with Sell by Weight & Length?

Yes. Products sold by weight show Choose amount on their cards and the amount field is styled in the Pantry look. Make an Offer and Abandoned Cart Recovery keep working. All three are separate products and Pantry does not depend on them.

Is the nutrition table legal advice?

No. It shows what you enter in your features, so allergen and nutrition information must be correct and follow the food labelling rules of the countries you sell to.

What happens when the licence is not valid?

The shop keeps working. Templates and styles stay; the home page sections, the Add buttons, the unit line, stickers, countdowns, product page extras and the presets other than Market are switched off until the licence is valid again.

Can I rename the feature names?

Yes. The names of the features Pantry reads are settings.

Does it reload the page on Add?

No. The Add button turns into a stepper with no page reload or pop-up.

Does Pantry book delivery slots?

No. The header pill displays your delivery promise.
